Abdominoplasty: To Tummy Tuck or Not To Tummy Tuck?

Thursday, June 19th, 2008

By Mary Desaulniers A friend of mine lost over 60 pounds by eating well and exercising. She looked marvelous except for the extra padding around the abdomen, which refused to budge, despite her exercise and diet regimen. That was when she considered a “tummy tuck.” Maybe you’re lucky. Maybe you don’t have a tummy that protrudes a bit more with each passing year, no matter how often you go to the gym and how faithful you are to the south beach diet. If you’re not one of the lucky ones though, you might consider abdominoplasty, otherwise known as a tummy tuck. It’s a surgical procedure which means there are the risks associated with it. But the wisest thing to do is to look at your situation carefully and see if the benefits outweigh the risks. Because of new developments in the procedure, the benefits are considerable. What exactly is a tummy tuck? Abdominoplasty is the reduction of excess skin and fat from the abdomen and the tightening of muscles of the abdominal wall. Depending on the needs of the patient and the methods of the surgeon, a tummy tuck can vary in scope and process. Some doctors combine abdominoplasty with liposuction, for example, while others do not. Why have a tummy tuck? It reduces the normal sagging that is part of the aging process. For women, childbearing can accelerate this sagging. Pregnancy stretches the abdominal skin which loses its original elasticity. A tummy tuck can get your tummy closer to a youthful, flat state. For many, this provides not only a physical lift, but a mental lift as well. The results can be dramatic. This procedure is especially appropriate for middle-aged women and men who are in good health and who have tried diet and exercise but have not been able to reduce the fat deposits and loose skin around the abdomen. If you’re in the process of losing weight, it’s better to wait until you’ve reached your goal before you have the procedure. Look at the tummy tuck as that extra bonus you give yourself for reaching your weight loss goals. And if you are indeed considering the procedure, read as much as you can about it before you make the decision to go ahead. Are you willing to risk side effects and even death (extremely rare) to look better? Many of us are. But if you are not, then forego the decision or wait until you can better assess the situation. If you feel that looking good is vital for you, then you need to consider the selection of the surgeon. This selection of a competent surgeon is critical to your successful outcome. Interview several candidates and ask for references. You need a surgeon who is not only highly skilled and experienced, but who makes you feel comfortable, answers your questions–someone you have confidence in. And there’s no substitute for talking with other people who’ve had the procedure. Financially, you’re probably going to have to foot the bill yourself. For most people, tummy tuck is an elective procedure not covered by health insurance policies. It’s always wise to check with your insurance companies because your doctor and insurance company may deem the procedure necessary for special reasons. If, for example, your overall weight threatened your health and you had stomach reduction surgery, then tummy tuck is necessary because now your body needs some toning and tucking due the results of the reduction surgery. Checking out with your insurance company is worth a try. One final word of advice: make sure that you have tried the diet and exercise routines and that these routines are a regular part of your lifestyle. A tummy tuck should not be a short term solution; it is part of a long term solution that you already have in place for yourself. My friend looks wonderful; she has continued her exercise regimen; she eats well; is active and vibrant in the community; she continues to be part of weight watchers and has become a prominent example of healthy living for all of us. What Is The One Thing Woman Hate About Men? Dating Tips For Men

Sunday, June 15th, 2008

By Maurice Tate I asked my women friends this question the other day about what things they hate about men and for some dating tips and I was surprised about the response. I assumed lack of money would be one issue women hate. Another issue I felt could be important would be a lack of listening skills. I expected that most women would find most men lack the ability to have a deep emotional connection. I also expected most women would like great sex. To my surprise I found that most women hated wussy men. They used different words for this. They used words like clingy and needy and a mums boy. It seems most women do not want to be a mum to their man. Why do men become very needy? I have been reflecting on this and I feel it comes back to how we related to our mums. Did the man feel totally loved by their mum? Just about any man and myself would say that that their mum did her best but she did not love them unconditionally. So the boy feels that he was not loved on some level when he was growing up. So when the boy is grown up he has a need for love. He feels that his women can fulfill this need of love that he did not receive from his mum. He becomes needy around women. His happiness depends on a woman. He tries to please his women by gifts, flowers and expensive restaurants. He puts up with her flaking out on dates and her over critical behavior. He is NICE. He is far too NICE. Women hate this! Have you ever noticed that some very attractive women are not interested in nice man but are attracted to Bad Boys? Do you have attractive women friends that just want to be friends with you? Have you been told that you are nice but a woman just wants to be friends with you? If so, I feel you could be wussy on some level. Another sign is a fear of rejection from women. If your happiness is dependent on your partner you will fear loosing her a lot. You need her to be happy so you are dependent on her. I have observed that women are very sensitive to picking up on needy men. Perhaps it is the body language that a needy man uses. I feel that it is also an energy thing that women can feel. I feel women really want a challenge and not a wuss. They love a very confident, sexy man that knows he can attract any women with no effort If you are interested in getting out of being a wuss, please visit my site bodyecstatic.com or www.bodyesctatic.com for anti wuss material for any men. For myself to grow out of being a wuss, I had to learn to love the good, the not so good and myself. When I did this I felt a lot more self-love to myself. I became less needy around women and I found I attracted a much more feminine, sexy women as a result. I hope you enjoyed this dating tip for men. Having a Successful Sale - Tips for Making the Most of your next Garage or Yard Sale

Sunday, June 1st, 2008

By Tara Crooks It is a common misconception that only poor people or bargain hunters go to garage/yard sales, or that its the poor that even have them for that matter. Garage/yard sales not only help your customers save money by shopping gently loved items, they also let you make money for spending later! It has been said over and over, one mans trash is another mans treasure. You can find unique items you can’t just pick up at the mall. Think about it, even when you do buy something brand new, the next day it will be considered “used”. Garage/Yard sales are very popular in the military. That might have something to do with our mobile lifestyle, do you think? As we all know, all too well, the curtains from the house at one post may not fit the windows of the home at the next duty station. The pressed-wood desk you had purchased for your sons room definitely wont make it through a move, and how many cookie sheets do you really need anyway? Having a garage or yard sale is hard and exhausting work but they can be quite profitable. Here are a few tips to make your next sale a success! Find out if your post or neighborhood sponsors a post wide or neighborhood wide sales these are simpler because they do all or most of the next several steps for you Find out if you have restrictions in your neighborhood or local government you may need a permit Advertise your sale on the web and in your local newspaper Put up signs, but be aware that there are laws regarding the placement of signage Put up advertisements at the commissary/grocery store or around post on bulletin boards If you do many sales invest in good signs that are reusable Use a marker or crayon (dark colored) for your signs and make them easy to read NO ballpoint pens Avoid putting your signs on utility poles When posting your signs make sure they are up where they can easily be seen Dont crowd your signs with excess wording keep it simple Once your sale is over TAKE DOWN YOUR SIGNS Avoid having a perpetual sale pick a date have it and then donate the excess to a local charity Make sure you have adequate parking Be considerate and let your neighbors know that you are going to have a sale Dont pick a holiday weekend Expect Early Birds but if you dont really want them let them know Know when major employers in your area pay their employees and schedule your sale around payday or for military just pick the weekend following the 1st or 15th of the month As you accumulate stuff for your sale, make sure you dont sell something youll regret later a good tip is to put it out in the garage in a pile and then if you dont use it for a month you know its something that you need to sell Do not sell anything without the owners approval (i.e. your neighbors borrowed drill) Get your children involved by telling them they can keep any profits earned from the sale of their old toys or clothing Clean up your yard Get rid of anything that you dont want to sell by covering it or putting it away from the sale area sometimes this means you need to have a driveway sale and close your garage door Keep your pets in the house or in the back yard even if they are friendly some people are afraid or dislike animals Customer Service dont just SIT and read your book while people browse get out there and sell Price Everything Fold it neatly and put items in shop-able fashion Make signs for larger items Be descriptive if something doesnt work tell the customer, if it is missing a part let them know Use cheap metal hangers so that if the customer wants to take it home you can offer them the hanger Put items that are attractive to men toward the street men are harder to convince to bargain hunt than women Offer drinks (coffee or lemonade) Have background music (easy listening) Have change and plenty of it you can always go turn it back into cash Offer to take credit cards for large items, you can set up an inexpensive card processing through paypal.com or propay.com (amongst others) and process them through the internet Dont accept checks unless you are ready to deal with it when it is returned Guard your money box Have plastic bags available for customers purchases Post an ALL SALES FINAL message near your money box Dont be afraid to bargain The best advice is to split the sale costs with a friend or do a multi-family sale. They are easier to afford, and a lot more fun when everyone can get involved. 2006 Army Wife Talk Radio Publishing Guidelines: Thank you for publishing this article in its entirety including the resource box.
