Dating Tips - The Art Of Conversation and Avoiding Embarassing Silences

Thursday, November 15th, 2007

By Sacha Tarkovsky The first date can be a nerve racking experience and there is nothing worse than being with someone and not being able to keep the conversation flowing smoothly. The dating tip below is all about making the conversation flow easily and naturally and avoiding those embarrassing pauses that can ruin a first date. Lets look at the art of conversation on the first date 1. How never to have a pause The easiest way is to simply ask questions that need a reply i.e you dont get a simple yes or no! For example, if you said in a restaurant. Do you like the dcor? You may get a simple yes or no. However, if you phrase it differently you should get a more expansive reply i.e I really like the blue dcor what colors do you like? You force more than a yes no answer and this of course helps a conversation develop. Always if the conversation is not flowing, ask a question that needs more than a yes no response. Topics to avoid Generally avoid any controversial topics or questions that are to personal. Good ones to avoid are: Politics religion, anything of a sexual nature or topics that are topical and that have generally strong opposite views. Only if you know your date doesnt mind debating these and accepting an opposite point of view should you engage in them. Good topics You may not be the best conversational person in the world, so get some subjects you know your date is likely to have an opinion on. Check out and learn some of the topical news stories ( particularly ones that are funny) and try and know something about your dates favourite pastimes and interests. If its music or fashion do a bit of research so you know something about their interests. Also show an interest in them. Non controversial background such as family, work etc Compliments Dont go over the top with these they can make your date uncomfortable make your compliments subtle and never overtly sexual. While conversation on the first date may seem daunting, especially if your date is nervous to - it doesnt need to be. Use the tips above and you will soon have a conversation flowing. If your partner is nervous to they will appreciate your effort and that will make a great impression. Always try and ask questions where you get more than a yes or no answer as this will help the conversation flow and soon you will both be relaxed and talking freely. Guerrilla Marketing: Don’t Forget the Postcard

Thursday, November 15th, 2007

By Ryan Powers With the litany of marketing options companies and individuals have at their disposal today, it is sometimes easy to fall into the trap that less is not more. Whether to compete with like-rivals or dismiss some less expensive strategies, many companies simply opt for costly media buys and expensive PR firms. Still others will commit something far worse nothing at all. The concept of Guerrilla Marketing (and other non-traditional methods) is really just a fancy way of saying that you can accomplish more with less. To borrow a military analogy, if buying TV, radio and prints ads constitutes the air campaign, then Guerilla Marketing would entail your Ground War. Rather than spread your message to a broad audience without certainty of mass interest, focus your message and your targets to those you know to be in your core market. One of the tactics you can utilize in your Ground War is the often-overlooked, but extremely cost-effective, postcard. There are countless printing options for consumers to buy postcards. By the time you get done standing in line at Kinkos or your local printer down the street, the online route allows you to already pick the right postcard, design the look and feel (or had someone help you), proof the artwork with a customer service representative, and request the postcards to be shipped to your doorstep. The combination of quality and speed is essential in a printing solution provider, especially when Guerrilla Marketing campaigns are on the line. Below are a few suggestions for creating effective guerrilla campaigns, in general, and achieving maximum effectiveness with a postcard, specifically: Invest more effort, not money With all of the avenues to achieve earned media for your business unique value proposition, free internet search engines and other websites, there is no reason to spend lavishly before you have a better understanding of the return on investment of a particular campaign. Consider the example of certain political campaigns: Candidates and staff spend a good amount of time (not money) sorting through lists of constituents and determining which will make the best targets for its message(s). Are they registered to vote? Likely to vote? Republican or Democrat? Male or Female. Over 50? Likely affected by a particular issue that you are talking about? This form of segmentation allows campaigns to have their messages resonate, rather than just spam the uninterested, or those not likely to be convinced by their message. Say something eye catching, but professional The key to Guerilla Marketing isnt just that you execute a low-cost/high-yield campaign. It also requires that you say something unique and memorable about your product or service. It is imperative to rise above the noise of emails, direct mail pieces, phone calls and other advertisements with a memorable message. In real estate, agents and organizations are always advertising to the particular geography they want to serve. While you may need to compete in-kind, consider that your message will not just have your name, contact information and a catchy slogan. It may also contain something more differentiating: a lower commission, a bundled service (such as mortgage lending, title insurance or home inspections), or a call-to-action. All of these components make it easier and more urgent for the target to contact you before they have a chance to be inundated with your competitors messages. Test and retest If you do not have a guaranteed return on investment, it is wise to try a sample-size large enough to give your campaign a fighting chance, and yet small enough that you can gauge the success or failure of that campaign (and adjust on the fly without exhausting your marketing budget). Once you have tweaked the campaign to optimize your message, targeted demographic and frequency of dissemination, you will be light years ahead of your competition (that just indiscriminately blasts spam). If you are a restaurant owner and your primary rival blasts out ad campaigns and mailers every week to prospective customers within a 20-mile radius, then your competitor would likely argue that they have the better marketing program. However, rather than focus on everyone initially, why not approach high rise complexes in the same geography first (office and residential) where you need to post far fewer fliers (and probably for free) to reach the entire audience at a much better economy of scale? You can then determine the success of that targeted campaign and how you need to adjust (language, approach, frequency) before spending anymore time or money. No matter the size of your marketing budget, you can compete, and often outsmart even the biggest rivals in your industry, by simply utilizing some of these ideas. Never assume because a rival has been doing it longer, or because they have more market share, that they have a monopoly on the best way to reach potential customers. The products and services of today can be, and usually are, replaced by the individuals (and their organizations) who realize that Fast can beat Slow, that Effort and Ideas can beat Money, and that those who challenge the status quo are not bound to pre-determined confines. 2007 SymAction Communications. 3 Reasons Why Every Business Needs A Newsletter

Wednesday, November 14th, 2007

By Deanna Mascle There are many benefits you and your business can reap from publishing your own newsletter. 1. Keeping In Touch — Your customers and clients are the lifeblood of your business. What better way to stay in touch with your existing customers than through a newsletter? A newsletter allows you to add personal touches to your relationship and celebrate milestones, both your own and your client’s. In addition to furthering your relationship with your clients, a newsletter can also allow you to introduce new products, offer special sales or discounts to your existing client base, and encourage referrals. 2. Hook In New Customers — Unless they have an immediate need or came to you through a powerful referral, most potential customers won’t buy right away. Often they will shop around and compare which means you will likely never see them again. However if you have a free newsletter that offers interested clients the opportunity to learn more about you, your business, and your products for free and they can also learn more about your interaction with your existing customers. A newsletter can be a very simple strategy to turn a one-time visitor into a lifetime customer. 3. Establish Your Expertise — No one knows more about your business than you do which makes you an expert. Likely the construction of your own business has further left you with a great deal of expertise in your field. Share your nuggets of knowledge through your newsletter to deepen your relationship with your existing customers and convince potential customers that you are the answer to their problems. Now that I have convinced you that you need to publish your own newsletter, I want to go over a few questions that budding editors and publishers always ask. What exactly is an electronic newsletter? Just like their paper counterparts, electronic newsletters deliver written messages usually relating to a common theme or topic. The main difference is that an electronic newsletter transcends paper and ink and most likely only ever exists on a computer screen. Some electronic newsletter are delivered only via email while others are delivered only on the web. Most are delivered in some combination of the two. Most of my ezines and newsletters are delivered via email but also available immediately via web page (or rather blog page) and RSS feed. You can choose the method is most suited to you and your audience. How do you publish an electronic newsletter? It is much easier to start publication of your own electronic newsletter than it is to start up a print publication. You simply need to decide on a topic, name your publication and start writing. It is easy to find an audience (beyond your own customer base if you choose) through the various ezine and newsletter directories around the internet as well as going directly to the source, for example discussion boards for people interested in your topic. You will need to determine a delivery method, which means most likely setting up your own web site or page on your existing web site; creating an archive for your issues once they are created, which could mean setting up a blog; and tracking your readers, which likely means setting up a mailing or autoresponder service. However you can use free tools to do any of these things. Deanna Mascle shares more internet marketing advice at Answers About Internet Advertising and Answers About Internet Marketing. What Is Rhinoplasty?

Monday, November 12th, 2007

By Gray Rollins Rhinoplasty, commonly called a nose job, is a type of cosmetic surgery designed to repair or reshape the nose. As one of the most prominent features on your face, your nose has a large bearing on your appearance and can impact how you feel about yourself. Individuals who are displeased with the size or shape of the nose can benefit from rhinoplasty because of the opportunity it offers to completely alter the appearance of the nose. Rhinoplasty has the ability to increase or reduce the size of the nose in its entirety, removing a bump, altering the shape of the bridge or the tip of your nose, narrowing the nostril openings, and modifying the angle between your nose and your lips. Rhinoplasty cannot be successfully performed until the nose has stabilized and nasal bone has stopped growing. This typically occurs around age 14 to 15 in girls and age 15 to 16 in boys. Any surgery performed before this point runs the risk of having to be redone once nasal growth has ceased, since the nose has the potential to continue to change and develop until that point. Rhinoplasty is occasionally performed on younger children in the case of severe trauma to the face, so that the nose can be restored as close as possible to its original shape and size. Most rhinoplasty procedures are performed on an outpatient basis under general anesthesia. There are exceptions to this rule, though. Patients undergoing severe reconstructive surgery may be monitored overnight to ensure that no complications arise. Individuals seeking to have their nose set after a bad break will occasionally receive local anesthetic only. During the procedure the cosmetic surgeon makes an incision either inside the nostrils or through the columella, the external strip of tissue that separates the nostrils. The skin is then separated away from the framework of the nose itself so the doctor can access the underlying cartilage. In order to reshape the nose, the soft flexible cartilage and bone are manipulated into the proper position and shape. Depending on the desired results, tissue may be removed or added to change the angle or contour of the nose. A chisel or file may be used during the procedure, most frequently to remove a hump from the bridge of the nose. Once the nose has been sculpted into the desired shape, the skin is resituated and the nose is splinted to protect it. Nasal pads may be used for the first few days following the surgery to pack the nose and protect the delicate septum. Rhinoplasty, as with all other surgeries, is not risk-free. In addition to the standard bruising and swelling, patients should be aware of a number of potential side-effects that could result from the procedure. These include an infection of the nose, nosebleeds, numbness, scarring, and a reaction to the anesthesia. Some patients report the bursting of small blood vessels on the surface of the skin and hematomas, or collections of blood that pool under the skin. The possibility also exists that a follow-up procedure will be necessary in order to remedy an over-correction or under-correction of the nose. When successfully performed by a highly-qualified surgeon, rhinoplasty can dramatically improve the appearance of your nose and improve your self-confidence. If you are considering rhinoplasty and would like more information about this procedure, contact a reputable cosmetic surgeon in your area and arrange for a personal consultation. Little Mistakes That Keep You Unemployed

Monday, November 12th, 2007

By Kevin Donlin If your job search is dragging on and on, you might want to look in the mirror. Because the person looking back may be sabotaging your efforts. Do you make the following mistakes in your job search? If so, stop now. And start getting more calls for job interviews. Mistake #1) Not Following Up If you fire off resumes without checking to see if employers get them, and fail to keep in touch until a hiring decision is made, your dream job might go to someone less qualified, but more persistent than you. Here’s how one of my clients, Mike M. from Boston, followed up right. And got a great new job. “After going to about 20 interviews, I found that following up on resumes submitted via email is very important. Probably a third of my interviews were obtained within a day or two after a follow-up,” says Mike. How did he do it? “I sent my resume and cover letter again via email, and included one or two wow’ points about myself in the email message.” Here’s an example of a follow-up email Mike sent: Hello, I would like to follow up on the status of my resume submission for the Forecast Analyst position, as there is a very strong match between the position requirements and my skills and experience. [I've attached my cover letter and resume again for your convenience.] As I have a strong desire to re-enter the consumer products industry, I would again welcome the opportunity for an interview. With a track record of delivering up to $1 million in annual cost savings through accurate demand forecasts and supply-chain planning, I’m confident I could bring the same performance to ABC Co. Sincerely, Mike M. Nothing earth-shattering there. Just plain, smart persistence that set Mike apart from other candidates. And it worked — he got hired. You can do this, too. Mistake #2) Not Thinking Things Through Last week, I tried calling “Jill” (not her real name) in reply to a job search question she had emailed me. After 5 rings, Jill didn’t pick up the phone … and neither did an answering machine. So there was no way to leave a message. What if I had been a busy hiring manager calling to set up a job interview? I would have passed on Jill and phoned the next candidate. So I emailed Jill to suggest that she get an answering machine. Her reply: “I do not have access to an answering machine because of my limited income.” To which I was tempted to answer: “Your income may be limited because potential employers can’t reach you!” Think it through. Would you go trout fishing without a creel? Of course not — how would you carry home the fish you caught? So why send out resumes if you don’t have an answering machine to “catch” calls from employers? Especially when you can buy one at Radio Shack for less than $30 — about what you’d pay for a couple of large pizzas. That’s a fair trade in my book. Question: Are there any “leaks” in your job search? Are employment leads slipping through your fingers? Think it through now. Mistake #3) Not Getting Input From Others After reading more than 10,000 resumes over the years, I’ve found about 90% of job seekers are suffering from an “affliction” that keeps them unemployed. What is it? Let me illustrate with a story … You’re eating dinner and your mom asks: “Could you get me the salt?” You walk into the kitchen and, after searching all the cupboards, you call out in a frustrated voice, “I can’t find the salt!” Then your mom walks in, picks the salt up off the shelf in front of you and says, “Look! It was right here in front of your nose!” In psychological terms, you have a “scotoma.” (Say: ska-toe-ma.) I have discovered that most job seekers suffer from “resume scotoma.” They unknowingly overlook obvious errors in their resume … until someone, like me, points them out. Here’s an example. “Jerry” from New York sent me a resume used to apply for jobs as a logistics manager. Yet, most of his resume was filled with irrelevant facts (”Honorably retired from the United States Marine Corps”), empty assertions (”Extremely dependable”) and unnatural language (”Excel at directing a cohesive staff in the successful attainment of objectives.”) Jerry had overlooked a host of flaws. When I asked if he had shown his resume to anyone for input, his response was a predictable, “No, I never thought of that.” To avoid “resume scotoma” — and get hired faster — show your resume to at least 3 friends before sending it to employers. Your friends will find gaffes and goofs that you won’t, even though they’re right under your nose. Now, go out and make your own luck! Kevin Donlin is President of Guaranteed Resumes. Do I Really Need Colonic Irrigation?

Sunday, November 11th, 2007

By Peter Crump Colonic irrigation is lauded by its advocates as providing relief from a number of complaints, while improving also the general health and wellbeing of the irrigation patient. Many mainstream medical professionals, however, as opposed to the alternative practitioners who usually provide the colonic irrigations, remain less than enthused by the treatment, and claim that the procedure merely provides an expensive version of a detox that the body is more than capable of performing by itself. So is the cost of colonic irrigation really justified, or would the consumer be better off with a store bought laxative? The difference, perhaps, between the colonic irrigation and the laxative is that the first is said to be conducive to maintaining health, while the second is usually only taken as a quick fix when something is clearly wrong with our digestives systems. Not purporting to offer anything other than the most immediate and minimal sort of detox, a laxative makes no lofty health claims for itself. Supporters of colonic irrigations, however, claim that the procedure can be helpful in alleviating the symptoms of a variety of different conditions, from chronic fatigue to arthritis. Those patients enduring the daily difficulties associated with such conditions would most readily agree the cost of colonic irrigation to be cheap at half the price if the procedure did indeed bring some respite, and while scientific evidence is lacking in the support of this, the anecdotal affirmation brought to the table by those who have found relief after a colonic irrigation detox cannot easily be ignored. So what do colonic irrigations actually involve? The procedure is, in the grand scheme of things, a relatively simple one large amounts of water are introduced into the rectum by the use of a tube and syringe, and removed again after a period of time. The colon, literally, experiences an irrigation, which is thought to remove any fecal build up that exists in the colonic area that might be causing symptoms for the patient because of the seepage of toxins into his or her body. Just as the effectiveness of the treatment is doubted by mainstream medical professionals, so is the problem the colonic irrigation is designed to cure doctors claim that the material found in our intestines is not damaging to us at all. For many people, the purpose of a detox is to remove material that might not be forthcoming of its own accord, in which case a laxative at a cost of just a couple of dollars a pack would seem to be just the thing. But for those patients who have found relief from a variety of symptoms in its aftermath, the cost of a colonic irrigation would seem to be well worth it. Those with an extra seventy to eighty dollars to spend might just like to find out for themselves. Ten Tips To Lose Weight Successfully

Thursday, November 8th, 2007

By Noraini Maskuri These are some common sense but effective tips to get you started to lose weight successfully. If you are serious about shedding off that kilos, it would be worth to firstly list all the things that need to be done: 1. You need to establish to what extend are you overweight. Consult your doctor and get proper assessment, only then you become aware how hard you need to work on losing weight. 2. Forget about achieving immediate and sudden weight loss. Aim to lose it gradually because evidence has suggested that people with slow and steady weight loss are more likely to remain at lower weight than those who lose weight rapidly. Experts recommend that you aim to lose 1-2 lb a week. 3. Aim to lose weight by reducing calorie intake and by increasing physical activity. You will be achieving higher success if you apply these. As you consume lesser calories, excess fats are burned from the increased physical activity. 4. Set a realistic target by implementing a sensible plan for dieting and regular exercise. Review progress after two weeks for example, by eating sensibly rather than consuming diet food excessively for two months. Calorie intake of less than 1000 a day will generally do more harm than good. 5. Water has no calories so always drink plenty of it. Water is vital for your body to function properly. Do not just drink alot during the early weeks of a diet where excess fluid is easily lost. 6. Do not weigh yourself all the time as weight fluctuates on daily basis. Do it at least once a week and that is enough to review your progress. Do not give yourself a false sense of hope if the weight loss is more than usual or a sense of hopelessness if there is no change in weight. 7. Eat your share of balanced diet which contains carbohydrates, protein, some fats and minerals. The needs of your body remain unchanged just because you are dieting. Just be mindful to choose lower calories and lower quantity for each type of food. 8. Get an accurate weighing scale. Do not underestimate the importance of this if you are serious in keeping track of what you have achieved. Set your bathroom scales to zero and check they are working correctly by weighing a pre-weighted product for eg, a pound of sugar. Weigh yourself preferably without any clothes. 9. Read up on tips for reducing sugar and fat intake. These are two key elements in your diet that need to be monitored. Choose margarine with reduced fat instead of butter. Cut down on biscuits, cakes, chocolates and crisps. Use skimmed milk. Cottage cheese is better than full-fat hard cheese. Bake, grill or steam your food. Educate yourself more on this. 10. It is important that you plan all your meals. This helps you to manage your calories intake throughout the day. Try to eat small meals instead of one large meal in a single day. Eating small amounts will lessen hunger pangs. Do not eat before going to bed as this eliminates the chances of burning those calories. Teasing Women to Create Attraction

Wednesday, November 7th, 2007

By Matthew Buschbacher I was at a local bar here earlier today just watching guys walk up and talk to women. I find in funny and sad at the same time to watch guys endlessly walk up to beautiful women and get shot down immediately. Its usually the same thing every time… the guy walks up close to the girl he likes… so close that there is no other possible reason he could be there but to talk to the girl. He stands next to her pretending that he doesn’t want to talk to her while every once in a while glancing at her hoping she might say something to him. What ends up happening every time is that the guy either finally builds up the courage to say something or gets overcome by fear and walks away pretending like he walked over to her to do something other than talk to her. Before we even talk about what he says to her, let’s look a little bit at what he just did. Its very obvious when a guy walks up to a girl that he wants to talk to her. So, when he acts really anxious to be standing somewhere for no reason, the girl knows exactly what he’s doing. She’s probably thinking in her head, “Oh no… not another one of THESE guys.” Why? Think about what this guy is doing. He’s walking up like he’s scared of this little girl and pretending for an extended period of time that he’s not there to talk to her in a way that makes it obvious that he’s there to talk to her. And not only that, he’s not the first one that did it today. He’s not the first one to do it THIS HOUR. Hot girls in bars and clubs have waiting lines of loser guys who try to pretend they aren’t interested in women in a way that shows that they are overly interested in them. And what makes it even worse is when these guys say something to these girls. Have you ever tried to use one of these lines… “Hey, do you know what time it is?” “I just wanted to tell you that… you’re beautiful” “I like your outfit” “Can I buy you a drink?” You know, maybe your mom or a girl who isn’t very good looking and doesn’t get guys who approach her would really like you to come up and say something like that to her. But, rest assured, those four lines were said to this girl probably 10 times each already in the last day or two(I’ve watched it). And Guess what… when you say something like that to a girl… when you walk up and act nervous and scared to talk to her… you’re just like EVERY OTHER GUY that has talked to her all night long. You NEED to do something different when you talk to girls. Especially when you talk to HOT girls. The answer? Tease her. Teasing girls says so many good things about you. It says that you: 1) Aren’t like every other guy in here 2) Aren’t overly impressed by her looks 3) Have a sense of humor 4) Are a challenge to her These are all great traits to have. In addition to being this extremely attractive guy by teasing women, you also weed out women who are insecure. You win in every direction. So, let’s talk a little bit about what teasing comments are. When you tease someone, you give them something and then take it away. For instance, strippers tease you by showing their bodies, making you give them money and then put their clothes back on. It’s a total tease. Well, you can do the exact same thing with a comment. Instead of being just like all the other guys out there and validating women everywhere you go, you can start to tease them. Here are a few stock comments you can make show you’re a completely different guy than most and create engaging conversation… If you see a girl with a bright colored jacket, say, “I like your jacket… the 80s look does well for you.” When you see a girl with those trendy furry boots on, ask her, “I really like your boots… did you mean to dress up like Chewbacca tonight?” When you see a girl with one of those trendy jackets that cut off right above her breasts, ask her, “Hey, I like your jacket but I feel sorry for the midget you stole it from. He’s probably cold now!” Look at a girl’s watch and say, “That’s an awesome watch, my little sister has that exact same one… but her’s is pink.” In these teasing comments, we give the girl a compliment and then immediately take it away. The key to saying something like this is to have a slight smile on your face when you do it. Its all about having a sarcastic, yet funny delivery to it. It also has to have some playfulness to it. You don’t want to look like you’re insulting the girl. Most girls understand exactly what you’re doing and would LOVE to play along with little comments like this. If the girl teases you back, ask her if she wants to go outside and fight(keep smiling). If you tease a girl enough, you’ve eventually start coming up with your own teasing comments that will have women attracted to you. Go out and try it. You can be like every other guy out there and stand next to a girl for five minutes kicking yourself while trying to think of an original thing to say to a woman. Or, you can immediately walk up with a smile on your face, differentiate yourself from every other guy out there and say something that get her chasing after you. I know it’s a hard decision. You can be an overly nice guy, chase women who aren’t interested in you for the rest of your life and have women walk all over you or you could immediately be challenging, show some back bone and get women chasing you. You can be one of the 100 “nice guys” who get a fake number from her this week… or you can be the guy who she chases after, calls all the time and wants to have an intimate relationship with. The key word… TEASE The next time you go in to kiss a girl, tease her by getting very close to her lips like you’re about to kiss her and then lean back away from her and smile. Tease women whenever you get the chance because it will drive them wild. If you become another boring, predictable guy, you’ll lose… every time. When you understand attraction and how to build it with women, your dating life will change forever. You won’t ever have to “settle” for women you don’t want and you’ll start having all the options that you want with women. You can easily learn how to go from making that first approach with a woman to, kissing her, getting her number and getting her back home with you. Marital Infidelity: 11 Stubborn Barriers to “Making Over” Your Relationship

Tuesday, November 6th, 2007

By Dr. Robert Huizenga Your relationship has suffered a deep wound. Both of you have a level of commitment to “make it work.” The OP is out of the picture - a least to a large degree. You know there is a crisis. You know you must “get at” the problem. Now is the time. If you don’t address the crisis NOW, in some way, you know the chances for having a vibrant rich relationship are spiraling downward. Efforts to “makeover” your relationship demand a fair degree of feeling safe with one another. Often this is not the case. Barriers to safety need attention before any “makeover,” resolution or joint decision making can occur. Often you are not aware of the specifics of the barriers. Or, you have a difficult time addressing them. The barriers or walls sit in the background casting their debilitating shadows. Your intentions may be pure. But, once you face each other, the barriers quickly squelch the hope for any positive outcome. In reality you think, “Here we go again. The same-o-same-o.” You feel defeated. Below, I’ve listed 11 common barriers. 1. I want to talk, he/she doesn’t. 2. I’m afraid of finger-pointing, judgment. I will become the bad person. 3. The conversation will eventually turn to what I did wrong or how I caused this problem. 4. I’m fearful I will back down, give in and then pretend that things are fine. 5. I don’t want to hurt his/her feelings. 6. I don’t know how to put into words what I want to say. 7. I’m afraid it won’t work. Then what? I’d rather not face that. 8. I don’t want to talk about the past, but think I will have to. 9. We can’t (really don’t want to) find a time to get together. 10. I don’t feel safe. He/she might use what I say against me at some point. 11. I feel guilty, awful. I can’t get past that. Here’s a tip. Begin to address these barriers by talking about them. Rank order the list with #1 being the most stubborn barrier. Compare lists. See if you agree. Begin to talk about the barriers. Listen, without judgment, as your partner talks about his/her perceptions. Addressing the “processes” in your relationship rather than the “content” is often a fruitful starting point.
